Tongzhou is the east gate of Beijing, located at the north end of Grand Canal and the east end of Chang’an Avenue. It is 37 km wide from east to west and 48 km from north to south, covering an area of 907 square kilometers which accounting for 14.3% of Beijing’s plain. Tongzhou is connected with Chaoyang District and Daxing District in the west, Shunyi District in the north, along with the Chaobai River in the east as well as Hebei province and Tianjin city, Hebei province in the south. Tongzhou has 11 towns, 4 street offices, 38 neighborhood committees and 483 administrative villages.

Tongzhou is neighbored by Tianjin and Hebei province, at the core of Bohai Sea Economic Circle, among the most potential cities. It is adjacent to Beijing Central Business District (CBD) in the west, 13 km to International Trade Center, and 20 km to Tian'anmen and 110 km to Tanggu Harbor. It is also next to the Capital International Airport.
