Tongzhou is next to Beijing CBD in the west, further about 13 km to the International Trade Center, 20 km to the Tian¡¯anmen Square; and about 110 km to the Tanggu Harbor in Tianjin in the east; and very close to the Capital International Airport in the north. Tongzhou is located in the core position of JingJinYi ¨C Bohai Sea economic circle.
Ten main roads including BaTong Lightrail, Beijing-Tongzhou Expressway, Chaoyang Road, Chaoyang North Road, Tongzhou-Chaoyang Road and Beijing-Shenyang Highway connect Tongzhou with the downtown of Beijing; the Sixth Ring Road brings Tongzhou and the other suburbs of Beijing together by easy communication; three highways of Beijing run through Tongzhou, namely Beijing-Shenyang Highway, Beijing-Harbin Highway, and Beijing-Tianjin-Tanggu Highway. Currently the total length of roads in Tongzhou District is 2,121 km and its density of highway ranks No.1 in the country and even in the world. Beijing-Chengde and Beijing-Qinghuangdao railways also meet in Tongzhou.
Besides, Beijing-Tianjin commuter train with the designed speed of 200 km/h had started to be built in July 2005. The Seventh Ring Road and the Second Channel of Beijing-Tianjin-Tanggu Highway are also under construction.
